  • 9/11: The Falling Man

    9/11: The Falling Man

The Falling Man is perhaps the most controversial picture to be released in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks. Taken by photographer Richard Drew, the haunting picture depicts a man dressed in a white shirt and black pants who has chosen to plunge to his death from over a thousand feet above the ground rather than burn alive.

Who exactly is The Falling Man?

And why was his picture swept under the rug in an act of self-censorship, so that those of rescue-workers and heroism could be glorified instead?

I think this was really very well done. A poignant and sometimes powerful tribute to “The Falling Man”. And I really find the end result to resonate and strike a chord with me: Falling Man is every man, every woman who perished that day. The comparison to the Tomb of the Unknowns is appropriate, and I think it is a fitting and proper conclusion.
RIP “Falling Man”, for we know not your name but shall never forget you. Lest we forget; Never forget, Never again.

I gave it a 6 stars just because of the people on the documentary. People like the husband telling how it was the call from his lady before her passing… Because of his kids, now young adults, I believe, that grew up without their mother… This documentary is about people, and not events. That’s warming and sad, and good for us to remember that at the end of the day they were all people like us.

If anyone has any doubts about the collapse of the towers, then I implore them to watch the documentary 9/11 Blueprint for Truth…
Richard Gage is part of the Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth, and he presents an amazing amount of technical and scientific proofs which blow many 9/11 ‘truths’ & ‘myths’ out of the water. This man & his colleagues ARE NOT conspiracy theorists, they are career professionals who are putting themselves in the line of fire to expose the chicanery, ‘cover-up & lies which was propagated by the powers that be in Washington. This documentary will change your views on the ‘official line’ of what happened on that dark day

March 25, 2011 is the Centennial of the infamous Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire which took the lives of 146 workers. HBO recently did a great documentary on this subject. You will find out that people in New York City jumped to their deaths from tall buildings to avoid fire way before September 11th, 2001. History can teach us many things but Americans (not ALL, of course) seem proud of their ignorance and secure in their position as a world “Super Power”. Thus they are doomed to repeat many historical blunders forgetting that once mighty Rome fell too.

You may also learn that Unions have done many great things for workers in your country but the Corporations would like you to forget that fact too.

I don’t understand why people are unwilling to accept the fact that these people jumped out of the windows of their own free will. I know that if I were in their shoes and my death was inevitable, I would not want to prolong my suffering by burning to death.

Also, I suppose for them how they died was the only thing they could control, it was like they took control of their life in their last moments and there is nothing wrong with that.

I am not justifyin suicide or anything, I am just saying, put yourself in their situation, what would you do? I would consider jumping if I was in their shoes so it would be hypocritical of me tpo judge them- they made their choice so let them be.

This documentary was very moving and emotional. It has given me a different view on 9/11. If you said 9/11 right now, people are most likely going to start talking about whether it was a conspiracy or not; or they will start talking about ‘Muslim Extremists’ and ‘Terrorists’. This documentary was an eye-opener because it gets you to think about the families who suffered and the horror of the people who witnessed it happen.

This documentary still hasn’t changed my view on America, but that is a whole different topic. I still think it is ridiculous the way the people blamed it all on the Muslims and all the hate crimes that happened as a result. “Yeah people, you just recovered from an attack that killed thousands of innocent people, so why don’t you kill more innocent people? It makes perfect sense.”

I’m not hopelessly naive; I know that nobody is perfect and I’m not holding my breath for peace to come anytime soon. I know that people are never satasfied with what they have and always want more. I just wish all the suffering would end….it’s heart-wrenching and some people are so cold and un-feeling. People can dream but that’s all we can do when it comes to peace.

All I have to console myself with is that all those who inflicted pain and misery upon others and those who committed wrong-doings will all eventually pay for their crimes.

This is a touching docu…not so much that it’s about 9/11, but much more because it’s about people…and the reality facing the poor souls in that terrible situation.

    • Cheng

what if they did not really jump off the building, i suppose as they pile off on the window they actually fell off. Hopefully, that was the case.

The 9/11 was so unfortunate for all lives lost, families who grieved and people traumatized from the event.

    • Viking

I remember the pain and disbelief shared by everyone. I remember the sadness and grief. Prayers need to be said for all the people who perished and prayers need to be said for the people who were left behind. My tears and anguish are felt for everybody affected by that terrible day.

This is a really good doc. One of the best I’ve seen on the attack. Another good one to see is “102 minutes that changed America”.

    • Lee Donaldson

I get the feeling that this picture was not the only thing to be swept under the rug as regards the horrible things that happend that day. The collapse of these towers was definately a self inflicted wound. Oh! & lets not to mention the collapse of building 7.

      • Tim C

        Come on Lee…Really?

        • Howard Roark

@Tim C : if you’re referring to her “self inflicted wound” comment, you have to think about a few things.
          A) There have been very few incidents ( I cant think of one) in which the catalyst for a war did not involve some sort of lie (Gulf of Tonkin, WMD’s…)
          B) There are many many prominent, credible people, here in the US and abroad, that at least believe there are suspicious things that ought to be cleared up by our government. And serious evidence.
          C)WTC7
Honestly man, I thought it was Bulls**t too. And i didn’t wanna hear it. I assume you are a logical person. I PLEAD with you to at least view at least 2 documentaries on the subject… since you’re already on the website right now. Then if you still think its stupid, you most likely voted for bush twice.

          • Tim Carter

            Howard…

What really upsets me is that you’re so psychologically invested in the “phenomenon” of the new conspiritorial movement. I get that. It’s like the new tine in and drop out. I applaude your efforts and I appreciate that you want to be someone that reads between the lines. But honestly, when you buy into ANY agenda, the lines just…well…They dissappear. It’s kind of like when you say a word over and over again. Pretty soon it makes no sense coming or going. You have to completely step away from it and come back later with your OWN feelings on the same word.

The other thing you guys miss is you’ve completely lost faith in your fellow man. As a result you drop completely into insults and painting with broad brushes.

During the first Bush administration i the 90′s the government license an illegal immigrant that installed a used hot water heater into a multiple family dwelling. The heater exploded killing 7 of my family members and an unborn child. I got a $250,000 settlement and a letter from George Bush Sr. aplogizing for the “mishap”. The attorney got 4 million dollars and dissappeared never to be seen again. Thanks Mr. Bush.

So between the two of us Howard, who has the right to be skeptical or conspiritorial? I won’t hold it against you if you will give me the same respect.

      • Maria

I totally agree with Lee. 9/11 isn’t black and white. The way the buildings imploded pancake style, the collapse of building 7, the way the passport of one of the hijackers miraculously landed in one piece in the rubble for them to find, the lack of immediate reaction from the President and the fact that they won’t even show the records of the day to backup their claims of innocence.

        @Tim:
“The other thing you guys miss is you’ve completely lost faith in your fellow man.” I suggest you wake up and take a look around mate. You will see that not everything is as black and white as you think.

Also, can I ask you a question? The money he paid you for killing your family….were you really satasfied with that? You just lost members of your family and hes offeing you money. I tell you, if I just lost my family like that I would feel offended that he was offering me money- “oh yeah, due to a stupid mistake on somebody’s part, a fire broke out and killed 7 members of my family…but it’s ok, Mr bush offered me money and its all hunk-dory now. The president is great.”

Psssht. Whatever. Some people are so ignorant and blind and no matter what you say they will never change.
