    Autopsy: Life and Death

    Circulation

The series begins by looking at diseases affecting the circulatory system, a major cause of death in the UK. Von Hagens and Lee explain that rather than life hanging by a thread, it hangs by a tube. In particular they demonstrate the complex network of blood vessels that deliver oxygen to our vital organs. If some of these narrow, harden, become blocked or burst, they can damage the heart and end in what we understand as a heart attack.

@Claudia, Von Hagens created a method called plastination, where you’re preserved in a solid state and won’t decompose. There are people in his exhibits that do yoga, do poses, play chess, etc etc, it’s a wonderfully amazing thing that he achieved.

There are a many number of things that happens to a person when they’re donated to science. Plastic surgery, Military testing (testing mine field equipment and weapon testing), Automobile accidents, what happens to a cadaver when it’s left in the elements, not everything is about dissection and candies and rainbows.

Actually, Claudia – they DO!:) You see, he doesn’t get his bodies from people who donate to science – he gets his bodies from people who specifically donate to HIM. They are made aware of what the bodies are used for in the form- and willfully donate them.
I plan to be donated myself, and have filled out the forms to accomplish that!

get off your hi horse. people in life play chess. these are very interesting and exceleent quality documentaries. Nothing disrespectful. read the disclaimer at the beginning, people know that they are giving their body for this purpose. You are the sick one for making it into something it is not.

that’s the same freak anatomist who had an exposition with corpses playing chess and other weird positions. I don´t think people donated their body to science to be used as human barbie dolls, it looked very disrespectful to me. I since came to really dislike the guy who seems to cultivate a grim image of himself in a sensationalist fashion(or is that hat part of the surgical attire?).

What scope do you use to justify saying what he did was “disrespectful” to the dead ?
