  • Between Two Rivers

    Between Two Rivers

The debut feature-length film by artists Jacob Cartwright and Nick Jordan.

Between Two Rivers offers a remarkable insight into a community struggling with severe economic, social and environmental pressures; illuminating the town called Cairo that is rich in history but is today isolated and largely forgotten. From its strategic importance during the American Civil War to its singular role in the Civil Rights movement, Cairo should have secured its place in the history of the United States.

This documentary film sets the city’s tumultuous past against the backdrop of the latest crisis to afflict the community: the record-breaking floods of spring 2011, when the rising Ohio & Mississippi rivers threatened to engulf the town, forcing an emergency evacuation and bringing its plight briefly to the attention of the world’s press.

Today, at a time of populist uprisings and Occupy protests, when national governments are reeling from the effects of a global financial crisis, Between Two Rivers reveals the stark effects of economic inequality and social injustice, as experienced by one proud but beleaguered town encircled by two mighty rivers, where the North meets the South in the heartland of America. (betweentworivers)

The documentary film will have its world premiere at the 2012 Big Muddy Film Festival, in Carbondale, USA. The festival runs Feb 22 to 26, 2012. You can stay in touch with the documentary filmmakers through their Facebook or Website.

Released 22-26 Feb, 2012. 95 min (Full length version). Directors: Jacob Cartwright & Nick Jordan. Indie documentary film.
