Finally got to see this one, Lee. Yep. Puts the potential end-result into perspective for sure. One of the other gladiator documentaries had mentioned actual deaths were not as often as we have been thinking. It sounds like the gladiator games in York may have been somewhat more brutal?

Liked this one very much! Gave a side of the games not often thought about. Considering a past job I had of dealing with corpses at a mortuary service, the speculation of how and when the wounds were dealt was very interesting. Death was more up close, intimate, and personal. That in itself is unnerving to think about.

It’s sobering to ponder having to utilize the large bladed weapons and other hand held tools of destruction I have in my personal collection on another human or furry carnivore. And all for the twisted enjoyment of a fickle Roman leader or blood thirsty local populace.

Personally, the gladiator mind-set brings the 1982 Conan the Barbarian quote to mind:
“To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.”
      (From http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082198/quotes)

That still gets my blood on fire!
