    • Hero

I wasn’t going to watch this not being that interested in the Trojan War but I did watch it for some unknown reason and I am very glad I did. I greatly enjoyed this series not just because of the interesting details about Troy, Mycenae, and the Hittites (a civilisation that does interest me) but for the scenes of 1980s Greece, Turkey, Berlin, Manchester and Cambridge. I have never seen Berlin with the Wall in place so it was amazing to see it and how run down Berlin used to be. Plus it was completely fascinating to see an academic at work using weird contraptions and bizarre computer technologies which took up a whole room to manage a few layered graphics and using photocopies, wall maps, and drawing pins to display information and illustrate his presentation. This was an age before computers were ubiquitous, before PowerPoint. I watched open-mouthed with delight. How long ago 1985 seems, even longer ago than Bronze Age Troy. I also enjoyed the music in the soundtrack and would buy the MP3 if there was one. Do watch it, even if you don’t care about Troy, I think you can find something to delight you in this.
