    Manda Bala (Send A Bullet)

Brazil is a nation where political and economic corruption and violent crime are a way of life for many, and filmmaker Jason Kohn examines some of the more unusual ways they manifest themselves in this documentary.

In Manda Bala (Send a Bullet), Kohn’s subjects include a plastic surgeon whose practice is dominated by the victims of kidnappers who lost their ears to their captors; a political figure who uses his frog ranch as a cover for illegal business operations which have made him a multi-millionaire; and an auto customizer whose specialty is bullet-proofing luxury cars.

Manda Bala (Send A Bullet) won the Grand Jury Prize for Documentary at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival.

Released in 2007. 85 min. Director: Jason Kohn. Documentary film.

THE DIRECTOR HAS MADE ONLY A PREVIEW AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

It’s great to hear this is not actually banned in Brazil. However it doesn’t detract from the fact that Brazil’s corruption, kidnapping, poverty and even plastic surgeons are all sickly connected. The politicians keep the poor ignorant and only give them basic items like bricks and cheese to buy votes when the time is needed. The butterfly effect of top level corruption and the effect (or lack of) that it has on the poor and then the effect they have on the rich…

I am from Brazil and I can attest to the fact that it is indeed a very violent country. I do take issue with one statement in this movie though. The director says that this documentary is “forbidden” in Brazil and that is just utter rubbish. This movie is not “forbidden” in Brazil as he states.

I am in Brazil and I have watched this movie here. It is not forbidden here. Actually, I have never heard of such a thing. We have movie ratings so that kids can’t watch porn. But I have never heard of any movie that is forbidden here. I guess the director only says that because he want to generate some publicity.
