Ocean Odyssey

Do you know what lies at the bottom of the ocean? From the makers of the Walking With… series comes an enthralling exploration of Earth’s final frontier seen through the eyes of its greatest inhabitant and the worlds largest predator, the sperm whale.

Following a young male from infancy to old age, the marinescape comes vividly to life: the impossibly deep canyons, the underwater volcanoes, and the spectacular mountain ranges. The inhabitants of opaque depths are no less impressive, black dragonfish that cast an eerie red glow and jellyfish shaped like giant footballs. But the whale is only interested in one creature, the colossal squid. When the two meet, it is the ocean’s ultimate battle.

Released in 2004. 120 minutes (2 episodes in one playlist). TV documentary series.

I actually thought this was going to be based on facts…..turns out however, It’s not that at all. Conjecture, theory and hypothesis seem to be the order of the day….But entertaining none the less.

Promising title, unfortunately, almost the entire documentary is computer animated. If you’re looking for a documentary in which you get to discover deep sea creatures filmed by an underwater camera of some kind, this is not going to fill your need.
Well done, but the description doesn’t entirely match what you end up getting. I quit watching when the baby whale waited around for his trapped relative.

I would like to point out this was made by the “Walking With” people.. so if you’ve seen any of those Walking with Dinosaurs ect you kinda expect computer animation.. if you enjoyed those shows you will enjoy this one too I imagine. It’s very well done

They really captured the family well with this film, great use of movement with the camera angles. I can’t imagine how hard it would have been to keep your distance from the whales, while still trying to create this fantastic doco for people to learn from. The whale stuck on the beach was in New Zealand up hawks bay and went by the name of Linda, she survived by the way – lets hear it for Linda x

yeah a bit misleading, didn’t really learn much from it. but enjoyed it in any case, and helped me to recover from the brazillian slavery doco watched earlier
