    Psychopath

According to popular wisdom, psychopaths are crazed and bloodthirsty serial killers. The reality is not so simple. While many psychopaths do commit violent crimes, not all psychopaths are criminals and not all criminals are psychopathic. Psychopaths are found in many walks of life and are often successful in competitive professions. However they are also ruthless, manipulative and destructive. Equinox reports on techniques developed by psychologists to work out whether a person is psychopathic and shows how brain scientists are coming close to mapping the malfunctions in the brain that cause a person to be a psychopath.

In Britain one person in 200 is likely to be a psychopath. However psychopaths are thought to be responsible for half of all reported crimes and to make up between 15% and 20% of the prison population. The programme looks at the most recent research into the brains and behaviour of psychopaths and assesses the prospects for the treatment or containment of this antisocial group of people who create such a disproportionate amount of destruction. Psychopaths who have been convicted of appalling crimes explain with disturbing clarity what motivated them in their violent and destructive behaviour. They speak without shame, guilt, remorse or empathy with their victims.

Though they are articulate and, at times, plausible and charming, they lack the range of emotions experienced by the rest of society. They know the difference between right and wrong but they do not feel it. Robert Hare, Professor of Psychology at the University of Vancouver, has devised a system of assessment called the Psychopathy Checklist. In specialised interviews, psychologists assess individuals on a scale of 0 to 40 for a series of character traits, including callousness, superficial charm, lack of empathy and many others (for more detail look at how to recognise a psychopath). Anyone whose score is greater than 26 is diagnosed as psychopathic.

to clarify… the “object” markee (between the html markup symbols) was stripped out of my comments. So there are two times when I wanted to mention the “object” markee and the sentences looked weird. What I meant to say is that I did not see “object” markees in the page sources, which is what prompted me to report.
      over and out !

    • yellowman

This page does not have any markee in its source; there is no video to be loaded.
      Thanks for what you do.

        Hello,

I’ve switched the videohost to Youtube, even though the prior videos (Psychopath & The Woman Who Thinks Like a Cow) were working fine through Google video. Let me know if it works for you.

        • yellowman

          Works perfectly.
It turns out I was blocking javascript from googlesyndication.com (I’m a user of the Firefox NoScript and RequetsPolicy extensions) , which probably explains it. Since I was not seeing any in the page source, I did not think it was necessary to allow it. I’ll be more careful before reporting next time.
Thanks a lot for such a quick response !

wait…what ? Google Video ?! I though they had dropped that service after they bought youtube… looking at it it seems they turned it into a video search service.

            Hi again,

good to hear the issue is solved.

Google video is still here for the time being, though rightfully so they are converting it into a video search tool. It will take them a bit of time to delete the millions of videos they have, so DocumentaryStorm still embed a couple of documentaries through them.

If there is anything else I can assist you with, let me know.

Psychopaths exist because if only 1% of all people are psychopaths, they can survive and prosper. Psychopathy is evolutionary selected.

The guy in the start who talks about how he killed his own brother is a monster. His eyes were really scary. They were so empty, devoid of all emotion. It’s really hard to understand the WHY behind a psycho, but I guess this doc gave me some clues as to the rationality behind a psychopaths behavior.
But maybe nature instilled this form of behavior in some of us (a lot it seems?) for a specific notion, or maybe the whole interaction with emotions, compassion and empathy is the real deformaty of the human brain? I have a lot to think about
