From below, a new music culture arose in the late 1980′ties in Norway. Unlike any other music genre, the deepest, darkest corners of man was explored vehemently. Incorporated through the idealism of satanism, black metal was born.
The tight-knit black metal community dealt in church burnings, murders and an all out fascination with death. The frontman of this small society was called Øystein Aarseth (Mayhem). Øystein was later on murdered by Varg Vikernes. This is as much a documentary about Varg; as the media controlling how black metal forever thereafter was viewed upon.

In impenetrable darkness
A chill rises
From the soil
And contaminates the air
Suddenly…
Life has new meaning
(Burzum, Dunkelheit)
