  • The Virgin Daughters

    The Virgin Daughters

Cutting Edge explores the purity movement in America, where one girl in every six pledges to remain a virgin, or to save her first kiss, until her wedding day.

Award-winning documentary-maker Jane Treays investigates whether this decision is made by the girls themselves or their parents, and follows a group of fathers and daughters as they prepare to attend a `purity ball’ in Colorado Springs, run by Randy Wilson and his wife Lisa.

      Hey Cams, seriously?! WTF?!?!!

    • Cam

This is weeeeeeird. If you are a paedofile, this is totally the movement for you. I would be surprised if there isn’t at least one daddy at the ball who’s trained his daughter to fu<k him as well as want to marry him.

    • Maestra Sierra

I imagine these poor girls would grow up regretting this bullshit movement when they finally get married and find out that their husbands were a bunch of whores. Also these so-called “poor” (they were f***ing around like the typical whores they are) husbands will deal with a dud wife with no experience… just imagine how boring she might be in bed. After that first night these husband whores would lose interest in their wives fast. It’s bullshit movements like these that encourages such a high divorce rate. Maybe if such blind submissiveness are required by both girls and boys this would work. After all these impure shithead boys are f***ing a girl and I doubt these boys will travel to the next county for her. >_>

    • Cam

wow why are the comments backwards on this site? i guess it makes sense cus the latest ones you read first, but that makes it confusing because you are reading conversations backwards…

    • Cam

yeaaaah sooo seeing that second comment just makes me want to post a comment because Cam#2 you are a little tarded if you think that a comment like that would make someone not post under the name Cam, in facet it makes people want to post under the name Cam just to spite you. you should learn a little more about humans on the internet before posting stupid things like that.

      • Cam

i mean cam#1 the comments on this site are confusing

    • Cam

For one, I don’t think the purity movement is ALL bad. Mostly, but not entirely. I agree with those who say that the intentions of these Dads are honorable. I’ve met a lot of girls who have grown up with abusive fathers, or entirely without one and the effect is enormous. A strong father figure is essential to producing an emotionally stable and mature woman. (Or man for that matter) Someone else suggested that these girls are going to all be reporting incest in a few years and I think that’s completely wrong.

What I don’t like about this movement is the glorification of submission, at last it seems to me. What these Dad’s aren’t doing is teaching their daughters to be strong, free thinking individuals, who don’t necessarily need a husband to live complete happy lives. These girls are being taught to stay at home under the guidance of their fathers and then get married and be submissive to their husband for the rest of their lives. Which is crap. Fathers should be teaching their daughters how to care for themselves, instead of just hoping a good husband will come along,

Please don’t comment using the name “Cam” as this is the name which I USE to comment. I did not post this comment.

      • Cam

Also, I’ve been posting on this site under the name “Cam” (which is my first name) for over a year now, so although it may also be your first name, I was here and using that name before you were, as far as I can tell. Please don’t use the name “Cam” so as to not confuse people so they don’t think it’s me when you post a comment

      • Cam

With all of that being said, I do agree with you…I was just very shocked to see a comment posted under the name “Cam” as this is my name, and it’s a pretty rare name (Cameron isn’t so rare, but few Camerons actually go by the shortened version, Cam) and it was pretty disconcerting to me since I knew I hadn’t posted it.

        • Cam

*GASP* two people have the same name, and Original Cam claims he is the only one who should have access to that name for posting!

Well, I’ve been using this site for over a year, reading comments and what not. I have no idea who anyone is, and I severely doubt anyone knows who you are. Hate to burst your bubble, but no one cares!

Except for me, because my name is Cameron, and I have been posting under the name Cam for the past 6 months or so. I am not Cam who posted the original comment. So you can call me Cam #3, but expect to see me posting all the time as Cam.

          Have a nice day Cams!

      • Cam

this is a good point. i agree to a certain extent because you are right in that teaching girls to just look for a husband is pretty whack and even though humans have done it for a looooong time doesnt mean that it is correct. that being said you can do with your body as you please and if doing nothing is what you want then go right ahead, but there are things about sex that cannot be learned without actually having sex and i would prefer to have a good sex life with the person i end up with not be learning the ropes at that point.

    • Maiwa

What about the boys? Why shouldn’t they be “pure”? This is just completely bullshit… A five-year-old cannot understand this!!! This is just wrong…

      • Maestra Sierra

Welcome to the double standard bullshit of a patriarchal society. >_> Funny how purity, concepts of virginity, and strict monogamous relationships don’t exist in matriarchal societies (Mosuo tribe in China). It seems that we’re better off having females being our leaders (just ask the Mosuo men they’re happy that they have less to worry about). ^_^

    • Nique

      Seeing this saddens me.
      1. I understand the fathers have good intentions but the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Basically they’re teaching their daughters to be so naive. Sure u dont want anyone to hurt your daughter but sometimes u need to experience a few bad ones to truly appreciate and find a good one and these girls wont have that. Hopefully the first one they date is a good man because if not- oh well.
      2. Its not the absence of the father thats the reason of so much sexuality. In the 60s and 70s with the hippes, they had both parents in the household and they rebelled just the same. Sometimes kids are gonna rebel and want to do their own thing. THATS NORMAL. As long as u raise your child right u know they’ll always come back to their senses. This is teaching u everything u dont need to do to your child.

My dad made me feel valuable and special without all of this creepy, vaguely incestuous rigamarole. He also taught me to value my intellect, and take care of myself, instead of just praying that I would find a good man to take care of me and have babies with. I find it laughable that these people are basically saying that if you don’t do this, you’re going to turn out to be promiscuous.

    • Tracy

Very creepy & disturbing. these fathers, under the guise of religion & fatherly love, seem to have an obsession with their daughters’ emergent sexuality. Strange how thew mothers are side-lined from the rituals & the discourse. Too often, the girls turned to their fathers & asked ‘what should I say?’ or seemed to be mindlessly parroting their parents’ views. Erie too how somehow virginity & barely post adolescent marriages are seen as the solution to all life’s woes & pitfalls.

I too foresee a future where many of these girls will come forward to report incest. Divorce rates will be high (these naive children haven’t a clue what they’re getting into). the wife of the head of the movement seems to be an emotional wreck: crying & laughing at the same time while her husband looks on -carefully listening to & monitoring every word.

Why aren’t the sons wearing white outfits, dancing around the cross, signing a purity pledge & ‘marrying’ their mothers?

I’m all for positive parental relationships. Loving supportive fathers (AND mothers) are important. Fathers must realize that they cannot be the focus of their daughter’s growing sexuality. She cannot focus that kind of attention on Daddy. I’m not promoting teens becoming sexually active or any form of promiscuity BUT early marriage to some naive boy who has just finished high school is every bit as dangerous & irresponsible. Also, the labeling of any person who has dated or kissed even one person before marriage as ‘impure’ or an adulterer is irrational. The trouble with religion is that anyone with an agenda can make their holy book of choice appear to say anything anything he wants it to say.

    • Howard

The only people who has a problem with food are anorexics and Bulimicsm, people who think ot it all the time.
It’s the same with these fathers, in reality they’re the ones who are obsessed with sex, not having a healty relationship towards it.

    • name

lol this sounds abit like submerged feelings of incest.

    • Vince

      that struck me as well

    • Vince

I don’t like it. I see divorces and suicides in the future.

    • Nan

Despite the negative comments, this doc was wonderful. I wish my relationship with my father was as great as this though I trully do love him. I have never been to such places or promised purity and my parents knew that I was/ am smarter than to give myself to someone just like that. Perhaps I’m too picky about who I befriend or too busy in my education to have time for a relationship. Education is number 1 for me and work number 2. I dont have time to have a relationship. It wouldn’t be fair to him.

    • Herus

So creepy how the dads are all about their daughters getting laid

    • Andreas

If jesus was hung rather than crucified would these girls be dancing around a gallows?

    • NancyB

I can’t help but feel there is something essentially twisted with this movement.
