Barbara Kopple directed this documentary portrait of Woody Allen, seen traveling with friends and fellow musicians during their New Orleans jazz band’s 1996 European tour. Allen’s relationship with Soon Yi Previn is captured on film here, and others on the European jaunt include bandleader Eddy Davis and Allen’s sister Letty Aronson.

Followed by press, paparazzi, and gushing admirers, Allen returns home to face a more realistic critical assessment during “the lunch from hell” with his aged parents. Documentary filmmaker Terry Zwigoff (Crumb) was the first director on this project, but he walked off after learning he would not have final cut. Zwigoff later commented, “They were like, ‘Who do you think you are — Orson Welles?’”

Released in 1997. 105 min. Director: Barbara Kopple. Documentary film.

I feel sorry for the not so good looking korean girl. but i bet it beats selling noodles in a ramen store huh??

Too bad she cant have a normal relationship, you can see she is embaressed about the things he says and does, honestly though she should be given credit, it isnt easy being around a cynical man like that haha, and he cant play well either… His technicality is… eh.. so so. Yeah i said it so, so. My sister can actually play much better than he can and she’s 18-19? He grumbles and complains worse than a talented rock star.

In theory we should be enjoying this! Possibly the better quote of Woody here-and how true. I agree-and this 75 year old inspires me to work on it!

Interesting glimpse of him-away from a film set. A documentary for Allen afficionados really -who are assimilated to some whining and humor in relatively equal measure-in this piece, at least. Not sure Mia, nor Maureen will like it. Oh well. Seems like a nice daugh—I mean girlfriend. Way to go -Woody!

What a way to travel though. Fortune-( if not fame) for Woody has it’s plus side.

Incidentally, I saw Mr Konigsberg walking in Tribeca NY-but good manners or maybe bad luck -my girlfriend, and heavy traffic-intervened. !

I did speak briefly to another ‘highest order’ artist -Martin Scorsese-(the man whose name silly film critics-mispronounce)-on another occasion. The ‘bigger the star-the nicer the person’ is an adage-which Mr Scorsese proved to me. No doubt Woody is in the same league of decency.

    Next time -Woody ! .

    Thanks for the laughs,
