Worse Than War

“By the most fundamental measure — the number of people killed — the perpetrators of mass murder since the beginning of the twentieth century have taken the lives of more people than have died in military conflict. So genocide is worse than war,” reiterates Goldhagen. “This is a little-known fact that should be a central focus of international politics, because once you know it, the world, international politics, and what we need to do all begin to look substantially different from how they are typically conceived.”

Worse Than War documents Goldhagen¹s travels, teachings, and interviews in nine countries around the world, bringing viewers on an unprecedented journey of insight and analysis. In a film that is highly cinematic and evocative throughout, he speaks with victims, perpetrators, witnesses, politicians, diplomats, historians, humanitarian aid workers, and journalists, all with the purpose of explaining and understanding the critical features of genocide and how to finally stop it.

Director: Daniel Goldhagen. Broadcast: On PBS, April 14 / 2010.

What the heck are we thinking as humans!? God, this makes my soul projectile vomit. “Shame” doesn’t begin to describe the overwhelming emotions for these unneeded, evil deaths. The technology we have in communications and worldwide military resources should prevent or halt any further genocides in any part of the world. We are failing and turning a blind eye towards this type of evil. Hell isn’t an adequate punishment for the twisted minds behind these moral outrages. I am sickened, embarrassed, and feel grief for the victims. The most sickening event is the terrible murders of women, children, unarmed males and the elderly. It is inexcusable behavior for “civilized” people.

The photo they showed from the Bosnian Genocide of the woman and the man in their living room, the woman aiming what I believe to be an M76 (basically an enlarged AK47 that fires bigger rounds and is used for sniping) with the crazy scope on it…that image will haunt me for some time. That gun was bigger than she [the woman] was! And yet she looked like she knew exactly what she was doing with it. I feel like these people are still stuck in like a 1940′s mentality or something; the world at war and all. This is one of the best documentaries that you guys have that I’ve seen so far though, the guy makes a very good case for creating a new international institution to work to prevent genocides before they happen
